What is a MAC address?
A MAC address (Medium Access Control), also called physical address or hardware address, is a unique identifier assigned to each network device (Ethernet, WiFi or Bluetooth). It is a 48-bit address divided into six bytes and composed of 12 characters, often separated by hyphens or colons (for example, 00-1A-7D-DA-71-15 or 00:1A:7D:DA:71:15). This is a kind of hardware ID card.
The manufacturers of the network cards assign this unique identifier to each piece of hardware. It is therefore impossible for two network cards from the same manufacturer to have the same MAC address. Note that the MAC address is "burned" into the firmware of each network card.
You may need to know the MAC address of a device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) for many reasons. For example, it allows you to easily identify a connected device on your network. Also, you can set up MAC filtering to allow the use of WiFi only for devices in your home or to boot your PC remotely.
How to Find MAC Address on Windows 11 PC?
Method 1: Know Mac Address on Windows 11 From Windows 11 Settings
1. Start by opening the Settings application. To do this, click on the Start menu and then click on Settings. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Windows + i.
2. From the settings, click ‘Network and Internet’ in the left-hand pane, and then click ‘Advanced Network Settings’.
3. Click on the network card whose MAC address you want to know (e.g. Ethernet or WiFi), and then click on "Show additional properties".
4. Under "Ethernet Properties" you will see the physical address (MAC) of your network card.
Method 2: Know Mac Address on Windows 11 from the Control Panel
1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Then click on "Network and Internet".
3. Then click on "Network and Sharing Centre".
4. Next to "Connections", click on "Ethernet" or "WiFi" (depending on your network).
5. From the new window that appears, click on the "Details" button.
6. Finally, in the "Network Connection Details" window, you will find the MAC address of your network card.
Method 3: Find Mac Address on Windows 11 via System Information
1. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog box.
2. Then type msinfo32 and confirm with "OK" or Enter.
3. From the "System Information" window, pull down "Components", then "Network" and click on "Card". You will then see the MAC address of your network adapter.
Method 4: Find Mac Address using Windows Terminal
1. Right-click on the Windows 11 Start menu and select Windows Terminal.
2. Copy and paste the command below to display the MAC addresses of your network devices.
getmac /v

getmac /v /fo list
