On the market, the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system (Windows 11) is doing its bit. But we must admit that Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 are still popular. For newbies, the choice is not easy to make. Here is a brief overview of what you need to know about these different operating systems.
SUMMARY
Which Operating System Is The Most Popular?
A popular operating system is not necessarily the most successful one. So you can try the new Windows 11. But before we get to the most popular operating system in the world, first check which of these working tools you are using on your PC and thus check your version of Windows.
To do this check, press the Windows logo key + R, type winver in the Open box, then select OK .
If you have done this, you are probably not yet using the latest Windows 11, but rather Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10? The latter is currently the most popular. It is installed on nearly 57% of PCs used in the world today.
If in second place, it is Apple’s operating system, macOS Catalina, which follows with almost 12%, Windows 7 follows with 11%. Finally, we have the updated version of Windows 8, Windows 8.1, which represents more than 2% of the operating system market.
Which Windows Operating System to Choose?
You have just bought your PC and you are wondering which Windows operating system to choose…
Windows 7
The version 7 of Microsoft’s OS was the most popular and the most successful of Microsoft’s operating systems. But since January 14, 2020, it has fallen into disuse and the abandonment of its support by Microsoft makes its use very risky from a security point of view. This means that even though some computers continue to run on this system, it no longer officially receives updates from Microsoft. As a result, this exposes both the machine and its user to various technical problems (incompatibility with certain software, bugs) and criminal problems (malware). Windows 7 will disappear completely in a few years.
Windows 8 and 8.1
When Windows 8 was released, it raised a lot of hope, as geeks were so fond of new features. But it quickly disappointed many users who fell back on Windows 7. Microsoft quickly corrected the situation by offering version 8.1.
The 8.1 version, although appreciated by its new users, will not prevent a good number of people, but especially companies from sticking with Windows 7. Thus, under the shadow of version 7 and completely outdated by version 10, the end of support for Windows 8.1 is already set for January 10, 2023.
Windows 10, the operating system par excellence
Second to last operating system of the American tech giant, Windows 10 has since its appearance in 2015 conquered hearts. Today, it is the most used operating system in the world because of its many advantages.
For many analysts, Windows 10 represents a combination of the capabilities of versions 7 and 8 and of course without their specific problems. Thus, it is both faster and more convenient than the other two.
Moreover, depending on the use you want to make of it, you can choose between different versions:
- Windows 10 Home;
- Windows 10 Professional. The latter offers the same features as Windows 10 Home, but in addition has tools for businesses;
- Windows 10 Enterprise;
- Windows 10 Education;
- Windows IoT.
In all cases, you will need an authentic license for Windows 10. In addition, Windows 10 users get new features such as Cortana, Microsoft’s voice command and especially a new web browser: Edge.
Finally, against all odds, the Redmond firm offers on version 10 the possibility of returning to Windows 7 and even 8 mode, just as it is possible under Windows 11 to return to Windows 10. This is enough to satisfy individuals and especially businesses in case of problems.
So, what is your choice? In 2025, Windows 10 will expire but you already have version 11 to replace it now if you want. Don’t have a license for Windows 11? Don’t worry, it’s possible to find Windows 11 licenses for cheap.
